Role

General Contractor

Rehabilitating an historic structure is a project that requires great care, skill, and problem solving abilities. We were honored when PennDOT chose Thomas Construction for the Main Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Lawrence Park out of dozens of prospective candidates. Lawrence Park was thoughtfully built around a General Electric factory in 1910 and the community has maintained its historic company homes and row houses for over a century. The Lawrence Park bridge was built shortly after the founding of the town, in 1913.

Our project is a replica of the original bridge, staying true to history in appearance but built to withstand the next century and more of Lake Erie weather and traffic. Most of the work includes approximately 2,000 SF of concrete deck replacement and deteriorated concrete repairs on the underside of the arch. The rehabilitation includes removing everything from the top of the roadway down to the top of the existing arch. Reconstruction will include new concrete slab with waterproofing membrane and epoxy overlay, new sidewalks and barriers. The existing wings and spandrels will also be re-faced and the deterioration on the underside of the arch will be repaired.
